Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings,
and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.

SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

Position Summary 

Full time Senior Manager, Grants provides administrative and financial support for an assigned portfolio of awards from basic to high complexity.  Funding is primarily USG, but can include corporates and foundations.  This role will support both prime recipient grants and sub-recipients funding.  They are responsible for ensuring the portfolio has accurate, timely financial reporting to the Grant Leads, from the sub-recipients, and for internal management reporting.  They work closely with the program teams to develop budgets (internal and external budgets) for existing awards and for proposal submissions.  They lead internal management reporting for their portfolio allowing for strategic decision on resource and budget distributions.   This position is responsible for interpreting and applying donor rules and regulations for portfolio assigned.  The Senior Manager, Grants must approach their daily work with a constant eye on continuous improvement and capacity building to help build efficiencies within their portfolio and the overall grant management function.  This position reports to the Senior Director, Grants and will work closely with all members of the finance department, the program teams, development, and Program National Grants teams.

Job Responsibilities  
 
  • Serve as primary point of contact for financial questions on portfolio assigned.
  • Prepare and submit grant budgets and narratives for portfolio assigned.  Work with programming team to incorporate the defined scope of work into budgets, draft budget narratives, and submit grant lead ready budgets in prescribed formats. 
  • Prepare and submit required financial reports for assigned portfolio based on grant requirements.  Create processes to ensure timely, accurate, consistent reporting and readily auditable reporting.
  • Participate in Grant Startup / Hand off meetings when new awards are won, participate in project team meetings to ensure all stakeholders are informed of budgets available, understand what can be charged and what has already been charged to the award.
  • Work with program team to analyze both staff and non-staff transactions to ensure that all costs are allowable, allocable, and reasonable for portfolio assigned.   Identify any charges that are not and work within the finance team to transfer the costs as needed, leaving only allowable expensesbooked to the grant. Flag any material variances to project teams to allow for a proactive course correction.
  • Track spending, invoicing, and donor payments to help minimize uncollectable expenses.
  • Support proposal process, drafting complete budgets and budget narratives based on scope of work submitted, working with program team and within finance to ensure the budgets are reasonable, understandable, and supportable.
  • Work and collaborate with teammates from across the organization as necessary.
  • Have a basic understanding of data literacy and willingness to use and refer to data.
  • Other duties as identified given organizational needs.


Qualification 
  • Progressive experience in non-profit environment and/or grants management
  • Professional experience in grants management required.  Experience in finance preferred.  
  • Familiarity with USG Rules and Regulations
  • 5-6 years’ minimum experience in finance or program management role
  • Experience preparing and monitoring project budgets
  • Comfortable with data analysis
  • Critical thinking
  • Highly organized; great attention to detail is essential
  • Ability to both take direction and independently problem solve when needed
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and function as part of a team
  • Excellent at multi-tasking and setting priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Office 365
  • Familiar with project management concepts and tools


Benefits and Salary Range 
  • The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 (SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range, except in extenuating circumstances.)

Our organization operates within a distributed workforce, allowing for location flexibility across the country for most positions. We provide remote office support for all staff, which includes a laptop, home office reimbursement, monthly wifi reimbursement up to $40, and monthly cell phone reimbursement up to $50.
