Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) envisions a future where all children are free from school shootings and other acts of violence. As a national nonprofit organization, SHP’s mission is to educate and empower youth and adults to prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities. Creators of the lifesaving, evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP teaches the warning signs of someone who may be in crisis, socially isolated, or at-risk of hurting themselves or others and how to get help. SHP also advances school safety, youth mental health, and responsible gun ownership at the state and federal levels through nonpartisan policy and partnerships.
SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

Location
We are a U.S. based organization and most of our staff work remotely. This position requires approximately 25-30% travel on as-needed basis. The preferred home base for the AVP is the New York area or Southern California.
About the Role
SHP is seeking an Associate Vice President to contribute to the growing we are actively sharping a shared identity as a team rooted in collaboration, identify, an ideal candidate must have a successful track record of creating relationships with major donors and prospects, soliciting and closing $50,000 gifts national level. We are looking for a teammate that is creative, proactive, and curious; has excellent judgment, integrity, and persistence; adept at relationship management with a passion for violence prevention and racial equity. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer.
Job Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
- Manage a portfolio of major donors as assigned, including 5-, 6- and 7-figure donors and prospects.
- Develop and implement dynamic, individualized solicitation strategies for existing individual/family donors and prospects in assigned areas.
- Use and manage a moves management system to thoughtfully and strategically participate in all aspects of donor relationships, including initiating contact, research-based qualification, preparation of proposals, solicitation, closure, and stewardship.
- Support fundraising involvement of Executive Leadership and program staff for meetings with prospective donors, including research, talking points, solicitation materials, program updates and follow-up proposals.
- Lead development of new events, including small-scale cultivation and stewardship events to drive incremental fundraising, with focus on NY or CA, and other key priority states.
- Support team members with large events and assisting with consultant/vendor relationships.
- Build strong relationships internally across the organization and proactively ensure access to the information needed to solicit gifts and build donor relationships effectively.
- In partnership with the Marketing team, coordinate 4-5 matching gift campaigns per fiscal year.
- Write and edit case statements, individualized outreach, and other fundraising collateral.
- May manage one direct report in the future.
- Other duties as identified given organizational need.
- Passion for the mission of SHP and a record of collaborative, respectful, inclusive leadership.
- 10+ years progressive experience in non-profit fundraising, including at least 4 years of successful close.
- Exceptional communication skills: listening, verbal, written, and interpersonal. Should be able to share 2+ products of writing to include proposals/persuasive writing, cultivation communications, etc.
- Able to take strategic direction from leadership and self-lead to work independently without hands-on coaching, prioritizing projects and proactively seizing opportunities.
- History of successful solicitation and stewardship of +$50,000 gifts.
- History of successful management of small scale and large-scale events.
- Ability to recognize and proactively pursue opportunities and challenges.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
- Willingness to take risks with a strong action orientation
- Experience and ease wearing multiple hats in a highly collaborative environment.
- Proficiency with a CRM (SHP uses Salesforce), MS Office, and donor research.
- A commitment to SHP's vision and values.

The salary range for this position is $120,000-$130,000.
(SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range [$120,000], except in extenuating circumstances.)
