About Sandy Hook Promise
Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings, and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.
SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

About the Role
The Senior Associate, Organizing (Northeast Lead) will oversee recruitment, development and engagement of SHP volunteers in the Northeast Region of the United States and priority states therein. This position functions as a key member of SHP’s Engagement Department. This full-time position will report to the Senior Manager, Organizing.
Location/Travel
We are a U.S. based organization and most of our staff work remotely. This role will require up to 30% travel on an as-needed basis for work related events and trainings.
Job Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
- Lead supporter recruitment, organizing, and mobilization in Northeast Region states
- Support in building tailored long-term plans for growth, participation, and retention in priority states
- Implement core organizational campaigns in Northeast Region based on state need and supporter interest, working in partnership with Advocacy team
- Mobilize supporters in Northeast Region on organizational calls to action
- Executing and participating in in-person events, phone banking, text banking of supporters and prospective supporters in campaigns and calls to action
- Identify ambassador volunteers in Northeast Region priority states who will support recruitment and engagement in their states
- Stay tuned in to local, state, and regional policy, political, and cultural issues to inform our strategy and our relationship management and stewardship in the Northeast Region
- Support in the tracking and inputting of data in Salesforce and EveryAction databases to track ongoing base building and campaign progress towards goals.
- 2+ years of organizing or volunteer management experience, experience working in the Northeast a plus
- Passion for meeting new people and engaging people in change
- Experienced speaker with ability to host training sessions for varied audience sizes and demographics
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to Sandy Hook Promise’s mission and goals
- Demonstrated commitment to integrating race, equity, diversity, and inclusion principles
- Performs other duties as required.
The salary range for this position is $54,000-$64,000.
(SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range, except in extenuating circumstances.)
