(SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings, and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.

SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

About the Role
SHP seeks an Associate Vice President (AVP) of Business Development to drive growth in K-12 and out-of-school time sectors by securing new business opportunities for SHP's upstream violence prevention solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the K-12 sales cycle, funding sources for skills-based violence prevention, and experience scaling within national youth-serving organizations. A proven track record of building relationships with K-12 education and youth-serving leaders is essential. 


Location
We are a U.S. based organization and most of our staff work remotely. This role will require 30-50% travel. 

Job Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
  • Develop a national, cross-functional business development strategy for the expansion of SHP’s suite of programs within K-12 districts and national youth-serving organizations.
  • Serve as an internal thought-partner and organizational leader around change management and business development process improvement.
  • Build a strong pipeline of partners aligned with growth goals.
  • Manage, coach, and support the teams in prospecting, relationship-building, and territory strategy.
  • Report on partnership goals, pipeline growth, and budgets.
  • Provide leadership and expertise throughout the partner lifecycle for accurate forecasting. 
  • Support systems improvements for efficiency and scalability.
  • Monitor industry trends and report significant changes to management.
  • Track new business opportunities and maintain accurate reporting in Salesforce CRM.
  • Promote data literacy and oversee team protocols and materials.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and integration plans.
  • Conduct regular forecast and pipeline review meetings with management.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Desired Skills and Experience
Thought Partnership:
The Associate Vice President will understand industry trends, synthesize leadership challenges within the business unit, and identify data indicators to provide evidence-based recommendations to the Vice President of Business Development and Relationships, guiding future business needs and strategy. 

Leadership and Advocacy: The Associate Vice President will leverage deep knowledge of the team's skillset to identify gaps and enhance performance. The AVP will assess talent within the business unit, evaluating strengths and growth opportunities, and recommend career pathways and professional development aligned with that assessment. 

Program Knowledge: The Associate Vice President will demonstrate mastery of product knowledge through program presentations, calls and other meetings with internal and external stakeholders. The AVP will also inform best practices to increase pipeline and grow the business. 

Competitive Intelligence: The Associate Vice President will demonstrate a deep understanding of competitive intelligence in written and verbal communications and can articulate how SHP’s comprehensive suite of programs work to decrease violence and increase safety in homes, schools and communities within the context of an increasingly competitive landscape.  

  • 7-10 years of proven success in education sales, particularly in selling digital solutions to diverse school districts. 
  • Knowledge of educational structures and capacity to engage as a thought partner within school districts. 
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM for managing the customer lifecycle. 
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with experience leading discussions on these topics across communities. 
  • A commitment to SHP's vision and values.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Benefits and Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $130,000.
(SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range, except in extenuating circumstances.)

Our organization operates within a distributed workforce, allowing for location flexibility across the country for most positions. We provide remote office support for all staff, which includes a laptop, home office reimbursement, monthly Wi-Fi reimbursement up to $40, and monthly cell phone reimbursement up to $50.
