Sandy Hook Promise
(SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings, and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer.

SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

About the Role
The Director of Implementation - Impact oversees the management and strategic direction of professional development and continuous trainer improvement. This role provides leadership in the design and execution of social and emotional learning curricula, community organizing, operational management, communications, internal collaboration, and partnerships. The Director focuses on scaling impact and enhancing the educator experience within Sandy Hook Promise’s programs. This individual will collaborate closely with key department leaders, including the Associate Vice President of Programs and the Chief Programs Officer, on special projects.  

Location
We are a U.S. based organization and most of our staff work remotely. This role will require 50% travel on an as needed basis to deliver training sessions and ensure effective program implementation and support for educators and the team with flexible schedules across months. 

Job Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
  • Commitment to REDI: Demonstrates a strong commitment to Racism, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) principles. Comfortable discussing issues of racism and inequity and actively works to foster an inclusive and anti-racist approach in management and work products. 
  • Public Speaking & Presentation: Skilled in public speaking and delivering training, with the ability to adapt messages to suit various audiences. 
  • Learning Pathway Development: Create and manage a modular learning pathway, developing multi-year programs that incorporate REDI, T-SEL (Trauma-Sensitive Social Emotional Learning), and Universal Design for Learning. These programs should be delivered both virtually and in-person. 
  • Program Management: Develop and oversee program infrastructure, including staffing, content sequencing, growth plans, budgets, and data collection/reporting systems. 
  • Training Logistics & Delivery: Coordinate logistics for both online and in-person training sessions. Deliver professional development (PD) sessions as required. 
  • Training Design & Accessibility: Ensure all PD training complies with Accessibility Guidelines and the Framework of Belonging. Align training content with CASEL competencies. 
  • Meeting Learning Objectives: Ensure that all PD sessions meet the intended learning objectives and effectively address the needs of educators.  
  • Professional Learning Communities: Collaborate with the Associate Director of Implementation to manage Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), including marketing, scheduling, and content development. 
  • Staff Training & Coaching: Use a gradual release model to train new staff and provide coaching for trainers. Apply a continuous improvement cycle that includes goal setting, observation, and feedback. 
  • Quality Control: Advise on data collection methods to ensure program delivery is effective and aligned with quality standards. Ensure programs are delivered with fidelity.
  • Trainer Collaboration: Work with trainers to lead, model, and support training sessions as part of a gradual release of responsibility. 
  • Training Best Practices: Develop and standardize best practices for training delivery across the department. 
  • Trainer Onboarding & Refresher: Lead the annual in-service training for onboarding new trainers and “refreshing” current trainers, in collaboration with the Director of Implementation - Impact. 
  • Implementation Support: Support a tiered structure for program implementation, providing varying levels of client support and helping develop subject matter expertise within the team. 
  • Internal PD Sessions: Create and deliver internal professional development sessions for staff. 
  • Grant & Development Collaboration: Collaborate with the Grants and Development teams to track and meet grant deliverables, deadlines, and reporting requirements.  
  • Cross-Organizational Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments and teams as needed to achieve program goals. 
Desired Skills and Experience
  • 5-7 years of experience in developing and implementing adult programs, including research and evaluation. 
  • 5-7 years of experience delivering training in educational or out-of-school settings. 
  • Strong understanding of the differences between adult and student learning, with the ability to design and deliver engaging training that supports diverse learners, using adult learning principles to ensure effective knowledge retention and application.
  • Expert in training and instructional design, with experience creating skills-based curriculum for students.
  • Proven track record of coaching and mentoring trainers/educators, offering feedback, and supporting their professional growth. 
  • Skilled in developing training programs that equip trainers to deliver consistent and impactful content. 
  • Tech-savvy, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies as needed. A commitment to SHP's vision and values.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Benefits and Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $93,000-$103,000.
(SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff. New hires should expect to be brought on at the start of the range, except in extenuating circumstances.)

Our organization operates within a distributed workforce, allowing for location flexibility across the country for most positions. We provide remote office support for all staff, which includes a laptop, home office reimbursement, monthly Wi-Fi reimbursement up to $40, and monthly cell phone reimbursement up to $50.
