About Sandy Hook Promise
Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) envisions a future where all children are free from school shootings and other acts of violence. As a national nonprofit organization, SHP’s mission is to educate and empower youth and adults to prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities. Creators of the lifesaving, evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP teaches the warning signs of someone who may be in crisis, socially isolated, or at-risk of hurting themselves or others and how to get help. SHP also advances school safety, youth mental health, and responsible gun ownership at the state and federal levels through nonpartisan policy and partnerships.  

SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

Location
We are a U.S. based organization and most of our staff work remotely. . The position will work remotely and deliver training virtually and in person; the position will require 40% travel. To effectively serve schools across the country, this job role may require working anytime from 7am – 7pm EST.


About the Role
We are seeking a Part Time Trainer to conduct trainings for Middle and High School audiences (grades 6-12) as well as facilitating adult facing professional development trainings to ensure our Sandy Hook Promise Know the Signs (KTS) and Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (SS-ARS) programs are delivered in an engaging, inclusive, and youth friendly format with fidelity

Job Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
  • Provide high quality and engaging in-person and virtual training to Middle and High school students as well as Professional Development to educators/staff in schools including district-based teams. 
  • Train and engage a large and diverse student/adult audience with a REDI lens.
  • Conduct up to five 45 – 60 minute in-person student presentations daily during the school year and on a school schedule (Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm). Training will be conducted virtually as well as in person. Occasional Sunday travel may be required.  
  • Facilitate adult facing trainings (5 hours in person or 2.5 virtually).
  • Prepare training materials and deliver professional development to adult audiences including differentiate content for diverse audiences.
  • Ensure all programs are delivered to the highest standards of program quality and fidelity and reflect SHP’s mission and values.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Sandy Hook Promise and its programs while in schools and when interacting with school personnel, whether in person or virtually.
  • Exhibit knowledge and expertise around Sandy Hook Promise’s work with the STOP grantees and/or SSARS agreements with states and districts within the region.
  • Coordinate own travel accommodations (Flights, Rental Vehicles, Hotels, and Food) and occasional trainer travel within region (when needed) in accordance with SHP’s travel policy.
  • Arrive to trainings at least 45 minutes early for student training and 1 hour for adult trainings to prepare technology, set up materials and greet school personnel, and come to all trainings fully prepared.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams virtually and contribute to other projects or requests during trainer downtimes, such as during school breaks.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience delivering trainings to youth and adults  
  • An understanding of Social Emotional Learning standards  
  • Experience creating adult training 
  • Comfortable and experienced differentiating delivery for diverse populations  
  • Ability to accept and utilize constructive feedback to develop and inspire high performance delivery 
  • Strong email and virtual communications experience 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom) and unafraid of technology in delivering engaging virtual trainings 
  • Exceptionally reliable—consistently on time, delivers presentations with fidelity, and proactively identifies and communicates challenges  
  • Demonstrated ability to engage a youth and adult audience  
  • Strong preference for previous experience in the K-12 or mental health space 
  • Ability to differentiate deliver for adult facing and student facing delivery 
  • Performs other duties as required 
  • Willing and able to travel; up to 50% of the time during the school year with frequent overnights is required and expected; ability to coordinate all necessary travel arrangements with SHP company purchase card 
  • Candidates must live within a 30-mile radius of an airport. 

Salary and Time Commitment 

  • The salary for this position is $30/hour.  
  • Hours: Part Time Temporary Trainer Average (per year) 
  • The approximate expected hours of work per week is 20-25.  
  • A minimum number of hours cannot be guaranteed for any given week as trainings are dependent on the needs of our partners

Our organization operates within a distributed workforce, allowing for location flexibility across the country for most positions. We provide remote office support for all staff, which includes a laptop, home office reimbursement, monthly Wi-Fi reimbursement up to $20, and monthly cell phone reimbursement up to $50.
